Kanika also known as Kaniha is a popular south Indian actress, who was born in Madurai. Her original name is Divya. She studied in TVS Matriculation School in Madurai. She was very studious and got Award from the Tamil Nadu Government in 1999. Then, she completed her Mechanical Engineering course in BITS PILANI in Rajasthan. She was a good singer and she appeared in many musical shows during her childhood. She participated in the beauty contest in 2001 in Chennai. She won the contest and her photographs were published in the magazines. Seeing her photo, director Susi Ganesan gave her an opportunity to act in his movie named 5 Star. As she was doing her graduation, she denied many offers from popular directors, including Shankar and P C Sreeram. During her winter vacation, she made her Telugu debut ‘Ottessi Chepputunna’ opposite hero Srikanth. In 2004, she did a Kannada movie called ‘Annavaru’. Her stage name in Kannada is Shravanthi. Kanika returned to acting after she was provided with a good role in the Malayalam movie Baghyadevatha. ‘Pazhassi’ Raja with Mamooty is one of her memorable movies. She took a break for few years, for her maternity and then returned to the cinema. Her latest venture is in Okay Kanmani, as a guest. She is also a good dubbing artist and she rendered her voice in ‘Sachien’, ‘Anniyan’ and ‘Shivaji the Boss’ to the female leads in these movies.

Kanika Subramaniam is an Indian actress, dubbing artist, playback singer and television anchor. She was born as Divya Venkatasubramaniam in Madurai, Tamil Nadu in India to Mr. and Mrs. Venkat Subramanian, who were working as engineers. She was popularly known as Kaniha or Kanika. 

She attended TVS Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Madurai, where she earned many awards such as the Tamil Nadu State Award for Educational Excellence. Later, she took a degree in Mechanical Engineering at the Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) in Pilani, Rajasthan. 

She developed her singing skills right from her childhood after joining pop and light music shows. As a pop singer, she usually donned stage performances while she was still studying. A model suddenly backed out in the Miss Chennai beauty pageant in the year 2001, and she participated in the event. Luckily, she took the second place position, which led to a film career later on. Ace director Susi Ganesan saw her in a magazine and offered her to do the lead female role in his second film. 

She accepted the offer, and she changed her name to Kanika. She made her debut as an actress in Mani Ratnam’s Tamil film entitled Five Star in 2002. This movie also marks the debut of th actor Prasanna. Kanika finished this film in summer since she was still studying at that time. Subsequently, she declined all the offers to pursue her studies and finish her graduation. Before she graduated, she debuted in the Telugu film industry through the film, Ottessi Chepputunna, which she did during winter vacation. When she graduated, she has decided to try her luck in the tinsel town. 

She starred in the Kannada feature film, Annavaru in 2003. This was followed by a cameo role in Cheran’s critically acclaimed film, Autograph in 2004. In the same year, she acted with Madhavan, Sadha and Rahman in the Tamil action comedy film, Aethirree. She played a significant role in the Tamil film Dancer and made a comeback in the Telugu cinema as she reprised her role in the Telugu remake of Cheran’s Autograph entitled Naa Autograph "Naa Autograph" was a Telugu TV show. Kanika made her debut in the Malayalam cinema through the drama film, Ennittum in 2006. 

She played the role of a mentally-challenged wife of Ajith Kumar’s character in the Tamil action thriller film, Varalaru in the same year. After three years, she made a comeback in the Malayalam film, Bhagyadevatha, which also features Jayaram, Narain and Innocent in the lead roles. This film had a successful run at the box office and earned her a nomination at the Filmfare for Best Actress. She was also awarded the Asianet Special Jury Award, Best Actress award at the Kerala Film Critics Association’s Atlas Film Critics Award and the Best Actress award at the Annual Malayalam Movie Award. 

She was seen in the Kannada film, Rajakumari and the Malayalam historical drama film, Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja in 2009. In 2012, she had three releases including the Malayalam drama part-thriller film, Bavuttiyude Namathil, which was written and produced by Ranjith. Her performance in the film as a housemaid earned her the Vanitha Film Award for Best Supporting Actress. In the year 2013, she played a pivotal role in M. Padmakumar’s Orissa. Kanika went on to appear in few Malayalam films in 2014 and 2015. 

She was lately seen in a cameo appearance in the Tamil romance film, O Kadhal Kanmani. Besides acting, Kanika also worked as a dubbing artist.
