Ustad Amir Khan was a well-known Indian classical vocalist. He was born on August 15TH, 1912, in Indore, India. He is still considered one of the most influential public figures in Hindustani Classical Music and is the founder of ‘Indore Gharana.’ He passed away in the year 1974, on 13 - February, at the age of 61. He was born and brought up in a family of musicians. His father, Shahmir Khan was a sarangi and veena player.

His grandfather Change Khan was a singer in the court of Bahadurshah Zafar. He was trained by his father as a sarangi player, while when his father saw his interest in vocal music, he started devoting more time in his vocal training. His mother died when he was 9-years old. He moved to Bombay in 1934, where he gave his concerts and cut a 78-rpm record. Well, these performances were, however, not very well received by the people.

Later he taught himself-, and developed his singing style, influenced by the styles of some famous singers back then, such as Aman Ali Khan-, Rajab Ali Khan Bio coming soon... >> Read More... -, etc. His singing style was unique and was known as ‘Indore Gharana,’ this style was unique and intellectual. His music style included slow-tempo-, emphasis on melody-, he had the clarity of notes-, rare use of that-. Later he was awarded the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1967, and one of the most prestigious awards ‘The Padma Bhushan’ in 1971.
