Ritu Singh is an Indian actress who predominantly works in regional Bhojpuri films. She became a household name after she featured in the blockbuster “Dulaara” (2015). The movie folds out the story of a man, who tries to earn money by dancing, disguised as a transgender, to support his father financially.
Ritu played a crucial supporting role in the film, amplifying her fame manifold. She was born on 11th September 1992 in Buxar, Bihar. She completed her schooling from the Virendra Nath Ganguly Memorial School in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh. She made her debut in 2013 with “Dildaar Sanwariya,” where she played a minor role, which did not bring her much acclamation.
However, two years later, after Dulaara, her career took a steep rise, where she starred in numerous blockbusters over the next two years, including “Mehndi Laga ke Rakhna” (2017), “Jigar” (2017), “Kasam Paida Karne Wale Ki” (2017), “Sarkai Lo Khatiya Jada Lage” (2018), and “Sangharsh” (2018). Kasam Paida Karne Wale Ki was her first movie as the lead actress. Ritu played the love interest of the lead actor, Yash Mishra. Adored by her audience, she has been portraying central characters ever since.
In 2019, she became a phenomenon after working in ten movies in a single year, namely “Radhe Krishna,” “Manjil Ki Talash,” “Special Encounter,” “9mm Pistol,” “Tu Mera Dushman,” “Dilbar,” “Patthar Ke Sanam,” “Bin Tere O Saathi Re,” “Hari Om Harry,” and “Rambo Raja,” some of which are in their post-production stages.
Her latest movie Patthar Ke Sanam hit the theatres on 28th June 2019. However, achieving such a high celebrity status had its perks. She was recently shooting for the movie “Dulaari Bitiya,” in Robertsganj, Uttar Pradesh, where the cast and crew had been staying at a hotel. On 25th May, an armed man entered Ritu’s hotel room and held her captive at gun-point, claiming to be obsessed with her. Chaos ensued and the police was called.
They tried to placate the criminal, whereupon he shot at one of the officers, injuring him. The cops kept him in the loop of conversation, eventually tricking him and seizing his pistol.
The criminal was arrested, leaving Ritu unscathed. The production of the movie was naturally halted in the aftermath of such horrifying events. She recently left her in Hindi television showbiz with an episode of Sony TV’s real-life crime-based show “Crime Patrol” (203). Besides acting, Ritu is also an active tiktok user, uploading lip-synced videos of Bollywood dialogues and songs under the handle, ritusinghy.rs.
