Chandan Roy Sanyal is a star of both Hindi and Bengali language films. He was born in Delhi and belongs to a Bengali family.Graduated with a degree in Mathematics, he initialised acting in a theatre in Britain, and his first film role was in Hindi, as the revolutionary Batukeshwar Duttin RakeyshOmprakashMehra’s 2006 Rang De Basanti Click to look into! >> Read More... . The film was a hit in India and a commercial success in other countries, and was recognised as one of the best films all around the globe.

After one Bengali (Mahangar@Kolkata) and two Hindi (the comedy F.A.L.T.U. and the drama Tell Me O Kkhuda) movies, he had another success as the cynical Ronojoy in the year 2012 in the Bengali drama film Aparajita Tumi. Sanyal played Joseph D’Costa, an anti-social individual who is killed and returned as a ghost. This was his second cinematic return from the dead, his criminal character in Kaminey having also come back as a ghost; he laughingly ascribes his comfort level with ghosts to having had a surreal life.

The very next year he was a ghost again, in the Hindi comedy-suspense film Love You To Death. The 2013 Prague marked a change from romantic comedies, as Sanyal played an architect who falls in love with a gypsy girl in the Czech Republic capital, but is increasingly troubled by his past in India and by mental illness as well. He returned to India as well to romantic movies with Kaanchi in 2014, in which he often got better reviews than the film did. With Mango now in post-production, his next release will feature him as 7 different characters in the “explosive” terrorist comedy Bangistan.
