Prasoon Joshi is an Indian poet, writer, lyricist and also an advertising guru. He is also the President of the McCann Worldgroup in South Asia and the CEO of McCann Wordgroup in India. He won the Best Lyricist award at the Filmfare for two consecutive times from 2007 to 2008. Prasoon was born on September 16, 1971 in Uttarakhand, India and spent most of his childhood days in Almora. His father is D.K. Prasoon starter his career in writing at the early age of 17. He wrote his first book, Main Aur Woh which was inspired by Thus Spake Zarathustra by Frederich Nietzsche. Subsequently, he wrote two more books which established him as an author. He launched his book, Sunshine Lanes on January 2013 at the Jaipur Literature Festival. He studied Bachelor of Science (BSc) and Physics until he was elected to took a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) at the Institute of Management Technology in Ghaziabad, India. At the same time, he decided to start his venture in advertising.

Prasoon started his career in one of the leading agencies worldwide, Ogilvy & Mather in New Delhi. For more than a decade, he worked as a Creative Star and became an Executive Creative Director in the leading office in Mumbai. In 2002, he also worked as the Executive Vice President and the National Creative Director of the global advertising agency, the McCann Erikson and later became the Regional Creative Director for South and South East Asia. In 2006, he was promoted as the Executive Chairman for the McCann Worldgroup India and also, the Asia Pacific’s Regional Creative Director.

He has done a series of advertisements including his campaigns for LG, NDTV India, Saffola, Marico, Perfetti and the Coca-Cola campaign who won in the Cannes along with Aamir Khan. His television commercial for Happydent was still notable and considered as the best ad in India until now. Prasoon was later called as ‘The Ad Guru of India’. Some of the award-winning advertising ads that he did were for brands like Cadbury, Close-Up, Coke, Ponds, Asian Paints, CNN IBN: India rising and more. He also donned several advertising for the public including the Pulse Polio, Anti Child Abuse, UN Millennium Goals: Anti Poverty Campaign and more.

He also penned the soundtrack on Aamir Khan’s starrer film, Rang De Basanti. He also worked on the dialogue of the film and this became his debut in screenwriting. In 2006, he also penned the lyrics of the music from the box-office romantic crime drama film, Fanaa. Prasoon won the Best Lyricist awards for the song, Chand Sifarish at the Filmfare and IIFA Awards in 2007. He also wrote the lyrics for the song, Maa in Aamir Khan’s Taare Zameen Par in 2008. Prasoon has won the significant National Award for two times; one is from the film, Taare Zameen Par and the other one for Chittagong in 2013.

This year, Prasoon Joshi will be the very first Asian to become the Chairman of the Cannes titanium Jury.
