Sumanth Maroju is an Indian dancer, who rose to fame with his performance on the show America's Got Talent in 2020. Hailing from a middle-class family, he did not have the means to pursue a career in dance. Sumanth's father was a railway employee, who supported him in every possible way to make sure Sumanth followed his dreams. When he was six or seven, Sumanth bought Michall Jackson and Prabhu deva dance videotapes and tried to imitate the steps. He learned the basics of dance in his home by himself. Sumanth's father joined him in Bivash Academy of Dance to learn and enhance his dancing techniques.
In 2012, Sumanth's dance coach Bivash Chowdhury paired him with Sonali Majumdar to participate in 'India's Got Talent.' The duo won the title of the season and gained immense popularity for its high flying performances. Sumanth and Sonali were 13 and 7 at that time. The duo trained together for eight years to improve their unique salsa routines. In 2020, they entered one of the popular shows in the world 'America's Got Talent' with a stage name 'Bad Salsa.' Their performance got highly appreciated by the judges Simon Cowell, Sofia Vergara, and Heidi Klum.
After the first round, Sumanth and Sonali became an internet sensation and appeared in a lot of national channels for interviews. In one of the meetings, Sumanth mentioned that dance changed his life completely. He now resides in Bhubaneswar and says his standard of living has drastically changed. Apart from Salsa, Sumanth likes hip hop. He wishes to perform all around the world with his partner and wants to put Indian style on the world map.
