Irfan Pathan, born on October 27, 1984, has a half-brother named Yusuf. They both started showing their interest towards cricket. Under the guidance of former Indian captain Datta Gaekwad, he began to develop his cricketing skills that made him get qualified in the under the 14-cricket team of Baroda. In early 2002, he was selected for the under-19 world cup cricket in New Zealand where he took about six wickets and won against South Africa. After returning from that match, he got selected to the senior zonal level team.

Upon returning, he toured to Srilanka at the age of 17. From there his career towards the Indian team had started. After that, he had participated in all Indian teams ODIs and T20s. He began his career as a bowler. He became famous for his fast-medium bowling. At the age of 19, he joined the Indian team. He was named as a good player of the year 2004. He won the test series against Pakistan in the year 2004. By the year 2004, he had secured about 18 wickets against Bangladesh in two Tests. His batting potential was identified by the year 2005, by the new coach of the Indian team named Grep Chappell. After that, he started his batting potential and became an expert and one of the top five in the ranking. Pathan continued his ODIs in Srilanka where he was the leading wicket-taker with about 14 wickets. His first half-century was against the Australian team in Bangalore.

Pathan made his name for the entire bowling aspect, as he was a swing bowler. Pathan had lost form during his tour to West Indies in the year 2006. As a result of his bad performance, he was dropped from the Indian team, and he was replaced by V. R. V. Singh, who was in the third place.

By the year 2007, he was called back to form the group among several young players where he showed his performance against Australia. After that, he started his career once again and participated in several IPL tournaments. However, because of injuries, he was again expelled from the teams. After that, he rejoined the team during a one-day series against West Indies in December 2011.

In his personal life, he married Safa Baig in February 2016.Their wedding took place at Mecca. She is popular for her nail art. On the whole, he was awarded as best man for the match for about four times, the man of series for two matches against Bangladesh and Zimbabwe in Test series.
