Laxman Utekar is a new age Cinematographer working mainly in Bollywood industry. He also is a renowned Director & directed two critically acclaimed Marathi films until now. Utekar was born in a rural area of Maharashtra. He was very passionate about photography from a tender age. After completing his education, he decided to pursue a career in cinematography. Utekar was very talented & his style was unique from contemporary cinematographers. After shooting a few ads, Utekar got his first chance as a cinematographer in 2007 film Khanna & Iyer. Although the movie was a failure, his works with the camera caught the attention of many viewers.

In 2008, he worked on a critically acclaimed short film named The Private Life of Albert Pinto. Utekar’s popularity started to rise and eventually he earned his first big break with 2009 high budget film Blue. It was India’s first film made with a budget of 100 crores. The breath-taking shots received immense praise from critics and Utekar started getting more chances in Bollywood. After that, he worked on two films Lekar Hum Deewana Dil (2014) and Tevar (2015). Both the films bombed at box office. Meanwhile, Utekar tried his hands on directing films in Marathi film industry after being tired of working too much as a cinematographer. According to him, the lack of presence of superstars in Marathi film industry helped him making films with good contents. His debut film Tapaal (2014) received worldwide acclaim and won numerous awards. Tapaal had its world premiere in 11 International film festivals.

The film is set in 1977 that tells the story of the bonding between a childless couple and a street child.
