Virginia Vallejo-Garcia (26th August, 1949 - Present) is a renowned writer, journalist, media personality, socialite . She was born in Cartago, Colombia. Virginia (according to Spanish naming customs) was born to Juan Vallejo-Jaramillo and Mary Garcia-Rivera. Vallejo witnessed enormous achievements from 1973-1999. She bagged many awards and recognitions during the peak years of her career.

Virginia became the #1 best selling author in Spanish in USA with her piece “Amando a Pablo, odiando a Escobar”. She attended the prestigious Anglo-Colombian school in Bogota, founded by her great uncle, Jaime Jaramillo-Arango. Jaime was also the ( or an) ambassador to London during the Word War-II. After her graduation in 1969, she got married to Fernando Borrero-Caicedo founder of a leading architectural firm of Cali at that time. They got divorced in 1971 and it was after that that she did her debut on television, despite oppositions from her conservative family and relatives. Virginia became the reason for a stir in the political scenario of Colombia after she publicly accused many Colombian presidents and politicians of being involved in the leading cocaine cartels in association with her lover, Pablo Escobar, the head of the Medellin cartel. This made her media career see a downfall.

After her career ended in media in 1994, she stepped into the multilevel marketing industry in late 1995. She became the first ever Colombian to be famed as multilevel marketing ‘Diamond’ in 1997. In 2000, Virginia began with her struggle against corruption. She provided Colombian Enforcement Agencies with her testimonies against the corrupt politicians involved in the multimillion fraud against independent distributors and the Colombian IRS. This caused threat to her life due to which she was taken to the United States of America by DEA in a special flight to save her life. In 2007, she published ‘Amando a Pablo, odiando a Escobar’ describing her romantic relationship with Pablo Escobar, the growth of the cocaine industry and the origins of the powerful rebel institutions with some other significant topics. It became the bestselling Spanish-language book during that period. On June 3rd,2010 Vallejo was finally granted asylum in the United States of America. After 22 years of long struggle, Alberto Santofimio( a former justice minister and an associate of Pablo Escobar) was sentenced to 24 years in jail on August 31st,2011, for conspiracy with Pablo Escobar in the assassination of Louis Carlos Galan and two of his bodyguards.
