Their family moved to Compton, California when she was young. Serena started playing tennis at the age of four. Her father and mother were her coaches. She and her sister were had their schooling at home, where their father thaught them subjects. At the age of nine, her family moved from Compton to West Palm Beach Florida.

She attended Rick Macci’s Tennis Academy over there. She and her sister faced so much racism, yet they didn’t give up and kept fighting for their dream. While Serena was in 9th grade, Richard pulled her and sister out of Macci’s Academy and started training them at home. She and her sister co-founded "the Venus and Serena Williams Tennis Academy". Serena had her debut into Professional Tennis in October 1995. She participated in the Bell Challenge in Quebec.

She lost the first round of qualifying to Annie Miller. She didn’t participate in any events next year. In the next year, she lost the qualifying rounds of three tournaments. She was ranked as the No. 1 in women singles eight times between 2002 and 2017. She got her No. 1 rank for the first time on the 8th of July in the year 2002.

She holds the record of the most number of Grand Slam titles in women’s singles, doubles and mix doubles. Serena married Alexis Ohanian, co-founder of Reddit. They married on the 16th of November in the year 2017 in New Orleans. They had a daughter in September 2017. Other than Tennis, Serena also participated in a many Brand Endorsements for the brands like Gatorade, Delta Air Lines, Pepsi, Aston Martin, Beats by Dre, and many more.
