Idrissa Akuna Elba, most widely known as Idris Elba is an award-winning British actor. He is popularly known around for his roles in “The Wire,” “Luther,” “ Thor Click to look into! >> Read More... ,” and “Mandela: Long walk to freedom.” Idris Elba started out as a British actor and gradually made his way to Hollywood. He won a Golden Globe award for his performance in “Luther”. An only child, Elba was born in Newham, London, England. His father, Winston, and mother, Eve married and moved to London.

Elba also appeared in various other films such as “Daddy’s Little Girls”, “28 Weeks Later” and “This Christmas” which were a blockbuster hit bringing in $50 million at the box office in 2007. Elba also starred in many horror films and thrillers out of which a few were a huge success in the box office.

His biggest achievement yet was in the fall of 2013, when he got a role in the biographical film “Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom,” in which he portrayed President Nelson Mandela. He got nominated five times for the Golden Globe Award and four times for a Primetime Emmy Award. He won one of the Golden Globe Award for his performance in “Luther”.

Apart from being starring in films, the actor also appeared in music videos for Fat Joe, Angie Stone, and rapper Giggs. Elba was also seen to have performed on the intro to Jay-Z’s album American Gangster. He appeared as a DJ internationally and opened for various celebrities during their music tours. He has two kids, a daughter named Isan with his former wife Kim and a son named Winston with his girlfriend Naiyana Garth. He was appointed as the Anti-Crime Ambassador in April 2009 for the Prince’s Trust.
