Illiteracy is a major problem in a vast country like India. Dealing with this critical subject matter, director KavitaLankesh’s Crazy Loka narrates the story of Basavarajakattimani who suffers from this predicament of illiteracy. Illiteracy is the root of all the problems that the society faces today. Problems such as poverty, child labour, unemployment, female infanticide, rise in population have illiteracy as its main cause. The film starts with Kattimani being rewarded with a doctorate degree by a University as a show of respect to his services provided to the society.

Sadavisha who is introduced as Kattimani’s nemesis, insults him of being illiterate and challenges him to achieve a degree of merit and prove himself worthy enough for the prestigious doctorate degree. Infuriated and left insulted, Kattimani decides to join the college he, himself had founded. To add to the embarrassment, we see Kattimani’s son Abhay studying in a higher class of the same college. Not paying any heed to this humiliation, Basavaraja not only learns academics but in return is able to teach human and moral values to his fellow classmates. Things were going well for Kattimani, when a sudden realisation of love strikes him.

Falling in love with Sarala who happens to be a teacher, in the process of attending her classes is misinterpreted by many including his son Abhay. In the meantime, Abhay too falls in love with one of her college mates Chadni. Amidst all the misunderstandings, another problem arises in the form of Harihara. We see Basavaraja being accused of providing a fake mark-sheet in order to gain admission in the college. He tries his utmost to prove that he is innocent and attempts to find the real culprit but fails in his attempts miserably. Deeply threatened and ashamed, he loses all his fighting spirit and zeal. Not finding any other way out, he quits college and decides to go away leaving everything behind. 

Proven innocent eventually in the end that it was not Kattimani, but his secretary Harihara who was bribed to produce the fake results so that he fails to complete the challenge, but it is already too late. Though he fails the challenge he took up, of attaining a degree in the college, a radical change is seen to be brought in the younger generation of the college, who ultimately are set to become the future of the country and seek to create a better society.
