Kapalkundala is the adapted version of the novel written by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay in 1866. The story deals with Nabakumar, who was saved by Kapalkundala when his life was under threat. Both of them fell in love and get married. Nabakumar is already married to Padmabati, who wanted to separate Kapalkundala from him. She joins hands with a person who wants to kill Kapalkundala. So, she stages a drama and makes Nabakumar believe that Kapalkundala is not genuine. But, Kapalkundala explains to him everything, and Nabakumar is ready to take her home. But, she is not ready to go with him. What she did and what happened to Nabakumar form the rest of the story.

This novel is adapted into Bengali films four times and once in Hindi. It was also adapted as a comic series in Amar Chitra Katha and the serial on TV twice.
