Sri Vishnu Sahasra Nama Sthotram is a Telugu television series. The show is based on the title of the same name. It is in actuality one of the most highly regarded religious scriptures in the Hindu religion. The show curtails the chanting of the Vishnu Sahasra Nama. The scripture of this chanting comprises of the names of the avatars in which Vishnu has presented himself to humanity. All these avatars are highly profound and are discussed in this scripture. The Vishnu Sahasra Nama is an ancient scripture which is a list of about thousand names of the Hindu God Vishnu, who is the head of all the Gods for the group called Vaishnavas.

In reality, this stotra is one of the most chanted and sacred in the religion of Hinduism. This entire epilogue is a part of the Hindu scripture Mahabharata. Other than that it can also be found in a couple of Puranas. The subject of this scripture has been under several commentaries. One of the most acclaimed notions over the subject is of AdiShankara, who wrote it in 8 century, and which has been studied and regarded in many schools of the religion.

According to the Mahabharata, this list of exactly 1000 names of Vishnu was handed down by the Bhisma to the eldest son among the Pandavas, Yudhishthira. It was given to him when Bhishma was on his death bed in the battle of Kurukshetra. The backdrop of the story is that Yudhishthira asks Bhishma certain questions and in its reply, Bhisma states that the only way in which mankind may get free from its pain and sorrows is through chanting these names.

The first ten names mentioned in the chapter are Vishwam, Vishnu, Vashatkara, Bhuta Bahavya Bhavatprabhu, Bhutakrut, Bhutabhrut, Bhava, Bhutatma, and Bhutabhavanah, serially. Then the names Putatma and Paramatma come into the picture. These are followed by Muktanam Parama Gatih, Avyaya, and Purusha. This way, from these 14, the other 986 more names are depicted in this serial. Each name has a set translation and a meaning according to the Hindu scripture. These names teach valuable lessons through the stories that wrapped with each name.

All the stories mark one of the highest forms of education in the schools of Hindu religion, as Vishnu is regarded as the supreme God. One, how is the essence and master of all the worlds in the universe. One with whom all the matter, that inanimate and animate, resides. And he resides in all that matters, in return.
