The show starts by showing the family rivalry between the two families. They are fighting for generations over the ownership of a temple named Annamalaiyar.

After many disputes, the ownership is transferred to the people who belonged to the Ratnagiri Family. Pattalathar is the main person in the family. He has a daughter who is the main protagonist of the show. She is named after a goddess. She has an elder brother who loves her more than anything. He also controls everything related to the temple. Rival families are always at war, and they want to have ownership of the temple. After the protagonist grows up, she falls in love with a member of a rivalry family. She is in love with a boy named Ulaganathan.

His family members want to have the ownership of the temple in return for his marriage. No one in the family of the girl knows about it. Her brother decides to give the temple to the rival family so that her sister can get married. She gets married to the boy she loves and starts living happily. After some time, a murder happens in their village. Both the families think that the other family has something to do with the murder. Her In-laws hate her and do not want to see her happy. She tries to win their heart via several works.

She loves everyone and wants their love in return. She wants the two families to come together and forgive each other for the things they did in the past. In one episode, when she says this, her in-laws tell her that this can never happen. Then she makes a promise to herself that she is going to make it happen. Later she tries to clear all the misunderstandings between the two families so that they can be together. Later some other families were also introduced in the serial named Anwar family, Sakthi family, Diwakar Family, and Mandiramoorhty family. Some of them work in favor of the lead protagonist, while some of them work as antagonists in the serial. The serial had more than 700 episodes, and in the end, both the family members start to live happily together.
