Malgudi Days is a collection of short stories penned down by the very famous and celebrated writer R. K. Narayan, published in 1943 by Indian Thought Publications, the publishing company Narayan founded in the year 1942. He founded the company after he was cut off from England as a consequence of WWII and needed some channel for his writing. The theme connecting R. K. Narayan's stories is nostalgia for the long-gone Indian small-town society. While the writer presents challenges and struggles that the residents of the town of Malgudi face, he mainly presents characters who are content with the overall status quo.
The show was premiered on Maa Tv. The story revolves around the life of a ten-year-old boy called Swaminathan or Swami as he is known. Swami represents the growing pangs of a boy who doesn’t like school, as he makes excuses and wanders around Malgudi with his friends. Swami's father works in a government office, and his mother is a housewife. At home, Swami shares his escapades with his aged granny, who, with affection, addresses him as "Chamy." Swami has two close friends: Mani and Rajan, the son of the police chief superintendent. He likes wandering and playing with them. He is a very innocent boy.
