The Telugu Filmfare Awards which were awarded in 1997, was the 44th iteration of the award function. Filmfare is famous for the Hindi Movies and is often adjudged to be the Oscars of India. Filmfare has its version in the South. Movies made in South Indian languages are nominated for the awards, and the winner is chosen by the popular vote.

Daggubati Venkatesh won the Best Actor Award for his role in Dharma Chakram. Ninne Pelladata, a Telugu movie, won the Best Film Award. Akkineni Nagarjuna went on stage to receive the award. Krishna Vamsi was honored with the Best Director Award for directing Ninne Pelladata. Ninne Pelladata actress, Tabu, won the Best Actress Award. M M Keeravani received the Best Music Director award for Pelli Sandadi.

During the award ceremony, there were lots of performances from actors and actresses. There also was a singing show. It was telecasted on many regional channels. During the intervals between the performances, the winners of the awards were announced.
