Naane Varuven is a Tamil language TV serial that airs on the channel Colors Tamil. It is dubbed from a Kannada serial. The story revolves around the lives of two people, Ragini, a girl who is being tormented by snakes, and Bharani, a man who is being tormented by the death of his wife. They both get together, and further drama arises. The serial starts with Ragini running through a field, scared for her life. A snake is following her. She falls into a pit and jerks awake. With her yelling, her parents come to her room to know what’s wrong. She tells them that she’s been having dreams about a snake chasing her. In Hindu families, such dreams are considered taboo and denote a bad omen.

Her father starts performing puja to take away those dreams. Elsewhere, two families of Divya and Bharani are having breakfast in Bharani’s house. Bharani is a billionaire. Divya is his uncle Ramesh’s (Bharani’s mother’s brother) daughter. Ramesh proposes on the dining table that Bharani and Divya should get married. Divya is in love with Bharani, but he is still hung up on his late wife, Chandana. Bharani’s sister Chitra and Divya’s brother Daya are in love. Divya’s mother, Indrani, says that she is against the idea of Divya getting married as she is still young. After going to their house, Ramesh reveals to Indrani that he plans to acquire Bharani’s wealth by getting his daughter married to him. This motivates Indrani to support the marriage. When Bharani refuses the arrangement, Ramesh tells Daya that he will get married to Chitra only if Bharani and Divya get married.

Bharani strictly says no to it. Elsewhere, Ragini dreams about falling into a pit of snakes, and a stranger came to save her. In real life, she gets unconscious when a snake falls on her. A stranger comes to save her. It is the same man she has seen in her dreams, Bharani. She eventually falls in love with him. She tells about it to her parents, who initially support her but take her away to a different place when she starts obsessing over it. Divya plots in many ways to get Bharani to fall for her, and her mother reprimands her. Ramesh arranges an engagement for Chitra and Daya but calls it off when Bharani refuses to marry Divya. Bharani also rejects Ragini when she tells him about his love.

However, in a series of events, Bharani and Ragini get married. Divya tries to sabotage their relationship after marriage but fails to do so. Ragini hopes that her snake dreams would end after marriage, but she was far from right. She once gets a dream that Bharani turned into a cobra. Worried about what that means, she takes Bharani to visit a sage. The sage tells her that Bharani is a shape-shifting cobra and that they were both wife and husband since their past life.
