Jhansi Chi Rani on Zee Marathi is a historical drama serial based on the life of Rani Laxmi Bai, the fierce queen of Jhansi who fought with the British and died in an attempt to save the country. The serial begins by depicting the early life of the Rani then known as Manikarnika.
Manikarnika also called ‘Manu’ lived with her father Moropant Tambe, a pandit in the court of Peshwa Baji Rao II. She hates the British with a passion and gets trained to fight them from an early age. After her marriage with Gangadhar Rao Newalkar, the king of Jhansi, several plots are hatched by the conspirators and the enemies of the State to take over the throne, kill both the king and queen or conquering Jhansi. After her marriage with the king, Manu had changed her name to Laxmi Bai and after learning of the conspirators she decides to take up another name as a ruse to fight back with a hidden identity. She takes up the name of Kranti Guru and continues to thwart the plans and conspiracies of the British and insiders to take the throne and conquer Jhansi. Kranti Guru’s acts of bravery and shrewdness spread like wildfire and when the king finds out the real identity, he is furious.
When Laxmi Bai asks him to accept both her identities he refuses to do so and she leaves him, continuing her battle against the British. Later, when years have passed and Gangadhar realizes his mistake he apologizes to the queen and invites her back. Soon she gives birth to a son named Damodar Rao. However, in her final days, she gets betrayed by the regent of Gwalior leading to a final battle between her and the British in which she was killed but not before handing over Damodar Rao in the safe hands of Tatya Tope and telling a villager to burn her body before the British could touch her. The whole life and achievements of the brave and ferocious Rani Laxmi Bai has been portrayed in this serial which makes it unique and worthy to watch.
