Vellinakshatram is a Malayalam dubbed serial on Zee Keralam. It is a dubbed version of a Hindi serial Bhutu, a children's comedy-drama that premiered on Zee TV on 21st August 2017. The original series was in Bengali on Zee Bangla. It is based on the character Casper The ghost, a friendly ghost. From Zee Bangla, it was dubbed in Hindi and then in Malayalam. It showcases the life of a friendly spirit, ‘Bhutu,’ who tries to help others. But while striving, she also causes mischief and chaos in the process. The story's plot follows how Pihu, a five-year-old girl, dies in an accident and lives in an empty house. She tries to talk with his friends but can’t do so because she is a ghost. She waits for her mother Anandita to return. Neighbors of the house sense that some spirit lives in the house and calls the priest for a havan. Pihu/Bhutu faints, and Bal Gopal appears and tells her the reality of how she died in an accident six months ago and has become a spirit. But she will find one true friend with whom she will get closer, and that friend will be able to see and touch her and leads to her mother.

Suchi rents the house and starts living. She discovers that a ghost also lives there. A spirit is of a child. Suchi dislikes so much that she starts hating Bhutu. But eventually, she starts developing a soft corner for Bhutu and promises to reunite with her mother, Anandita. Suchi tries to find Anandita, and Bhutu tries to help her by saving her from a sham marriage with Rishabh. Suchi gets a new job, where Anandita is her immediate boss and Aarav is the boss. Aarav first dislikes her. Suchi and Anandita become friends. Aarav starts liking Suchi. Both decide to search for Pihu's mother. Eventually, it was revealed that Pihu was murdered. Suchi and Anandita face the reality of Pihu’s death. Anandita gets to know about the extra-marital affair of her husband and Pihu’s father, Subodh. Suchi suspects Aarav of being the culprit of Pihu’s death. But she gets to know that Mansi, Aarav's sister, killed Pihu. Mansi is arrested and sent to jail, and Aarav tries to take revenge on Suchi. He buys the same house where Suchi and Pihu live. Suchi decides to take Bhutu away with her but cannot do so as Pihu can’t leave the house.

Suchi lives in the house with Aarav and suffers from his scoldings and tortures. Mansi was released from jail on behalf of mental instability. But Suchi finds that she is faking it. Bhutu tries to prank Aarav to save Suchi. Because of Suchi insult, Bhutu becomes angry and does naughty things. Suchi shouts at Bhutu, and to hid from Suchi’s anger, Bhutu hides in her favorite doll and gets struck. She seeks help from Gopal, who tells her that Suchi would have to pass the test like Yashoda Ma to freed Bhutu. Suchi passes the test and saves Bhutu. With the fire incident, Aarav also begins to feel the presence of Bhutu in the house. Mansi kidnaps Suchi, Bal Gopal warns Bhutu, buts she doesn’t pay attention. With the help of Aarav, Bhutu saves Suchi. Now Gopal tells Bhutu that her time for salvation has come to unite with her mother. Her mother, Anandita, reunites with Subodh to give him a chance and decides to remarry him. On the marriage day, Subodh gets killed by Mansi, who comes in disguise. Anandita loses her mental balance.

Suchi tries to find Bhutu, but she can’t see or feel her. Gopal grants Bhutu one last chance to meet with Suchi. The serial ends with Bhutu achieving salvation and suchiSuchi leaving the house. After a leap of two years, it was shown that Anandita returns to the same place, where Pihu/Bhutu lives and marries Vikram and gives birth to a daughter. Gopal transfers Bhutu’s soul into the baby's soul, and she is finally reunited with her mother.
