India has seen a lot of musical reality shows probably one in every language. However, this Malayalam show is a lot different from the usual shows that viewers are accustomed to watching. The competition took place between 14 districts of Kerala. Each district stood for a team of 6 members. Each team also has a music icon. In the entire show, these groups have been presenting various dance forms and other events to highlight the culture and customs of their respective district. Moreover, there is no age limit for the participants here.
This show is very different and has a new concept although it was open to a smaller audience. Indian Musical League runs on the channel Flowers TV. Another very attractive feature of this show is the prize. There was a cash prize for the winner at the end of the season. This amount will be specifically used to develop that particular region by building homes for the poor. The idea of using the money for development is, even more, an attractive feature of the show. This show is not just a competition but more of a social initiative. The six teams represented the areas of Trivandrum, Kottayam, Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Thrissur, and Malappuram. Each episode had multiple genres of songs presented. The show though named to be musical; it’s not just about music.
Indian Music League is a way of promoting the cultures hidden in the innermost parts of the country. It is an impressive way of bringing these things to light. However, it also starred some music legends in the show. The host of the show was Renjini Haridas. Singer K. S. Chithra and music directors Sharreth and Vidyasagar were permanent judges. The final day of the show took place on 6Th December 2015 which lasted for more than four hours. Famous personalities like Revenue Minister Adoor Prakash, Gokulam Gopalan, the channel head, the Infosys chief Shibulal and his wife, Kumari were a part of it. The Idukki district and its leader Srinivasan were named the winners of Indian Music League.
Malappuram district stood second followed by Kottayam, Trivandrum, Thrissur, and Pathanamthitta. The winner of the first season is responsible for the ‘Flowers Village’ which will be set up for the poor and homeless in that area. This show had a relatively new concept, and this is why it was highly appreciated by the audience though it was not so popular amongst others. However, the very idea of the district-wise competition set-up with a social cause behind it is very appreciate able. The show aired on Flowers TV from Friday to Sunday from 8.00-9.00 PM.
