Porus is an Indian historical fiction television show in Malayalam. Historical fiction is a unique genre of shows in which real historical events or characters like rulers, warriors, etc are depicted by adding fictional elements to make the events seem more dramatic than they are. This is also one of the most expensive television show genres there is because of the high production value. Porus is a historical drama set in 326 BC and revolves around the great battle of Hydaspes. The show tells the story of the Paurava Kingdom. Paurava kingdom and Takshashila are rival kingdoms and they are always looking for ways to capture one another. To take advantage of this rivalry, Darius III of Persia arrives in India. He plans to trade with these two kingdoms but soon he changes his plan and now wants to rule over the Paurava kingdom and kill all the members of the Royal family.

The king of Paurava marries the Princess of Taxila, Anusuya. Darius conspiracies bear fruit and it destroys the royal family. Anusuya is forced to flee and is pregnant with the King’s child. She gives birth to Purushottam who also gets lost amidst the chaos. The infant prince is saved by Ripudaman and is later raised by him along with his son, Hasti in the Dasyu kingdom. The show follows Purushottam’s journey to reclaim his father’s land and protect his people. He becomes Porus later in the show and stands against Alexandar, who also wants to assert his rule over India.
