A very popular television serial aired in Asianet, Harichandanam showed the life of a traditional Malayali woman Unnimaya who was brought to life on screen by Sujitha. An Adaptation of the story by Murali Nellikad in the Manorama Weekly magazine, the serial was directed by Harison and the Editing, Production and Direction by Baiju Devaraj. The story revolves around the life of Unnimaya and the two men in her life – Mahadevan and Niranjan. Sarath played the role of Niranjan, a singer who brings light into the dull life of Unnimaya. The serial also saw the presence of Mahalakshmi, a Sun Music anchor, as the female villain trying to win the love of Niranjan with the money power she has. Another interesting element of the serial was the role played by the yester year Actresses Mallika Sukumaran and Sreelatha. The serial could, in essence, be thought of as a portrayal of the hardships that the heroine faces in the form of dowry issues, blackmail and threat, loneliness and hatred. However, in the final turn of events, the heroine is left behind with her son, a husband who lost his life for her and the villain turned hero behind the bars. The serial was a popular one among the viewers not just because of the ideal turn of events but also the beautifully worn sarees in the serial, which was, in fact, an interesting topic of discussion in the various printed media.
