Ganga is a thriller soap opera in the Malayalam language that is telecasted on the channel Surya TV. Surya TV, which is a part of Sun TV Network was established in 1998, is a part of the biggest broadcasting network in South India,. Ganga is a very new show on Surya TV and has already started topping the TRP lists. The show was first telecasted on 27th March 2017. The show is a daily soap that is telecasted on weekdays, Monday to Friday at 8:00 p.m. The runtime of each episode is half an hour.
Ganga is the Malayalam dubbed version of the popular Tamil supernatural fantasy Ganga that is aired on Sun TV. The Tamil serial Ganga is also a remake of another popular Telugu television series Saptha Mathrika which is being telecasted on Gemini TV since the year 2016. Ganga is a horror-thriller. It is also a drama and romance opera. The center of the story are two girls staying in a village named Kannikapuram. These two girls, Abirami and Gowri (also known as Gangamma) are unmarried and live in a big house in the village.
There is a certain sort of mystery and taboo that surrounds these two girls, especially Gowri. The whole village talks about them. The villagers fear the two girls and are afraid to talk about Gangamma. It is considered that they have some sort of relation with the supernatural or black magic. Shiva is the male protagonist of the show. He is a city boy who believes more in science and facts rather than the supernatural. He travels to the village of Kannikapuram in search of Gangamma. What is the reason behind his quest? What is the actual history and mystery behind these girls? Why are the villagers so afraid of them? Is it just a hoax or there are actual revelations that might justify these fears?
The show, in its due course, will raise the curtain from over all these questions. The show has just completed 70 episodes so far and is already making the audience curious as to how it will turn out in the near future. The star cast of the show also is a fascinating mix of some very fresh and eminent faces of the Indian film and television industry. The main characters of the show, Abirami and Gangamma are being played by Piyali P. Munsi and Mounica. Piyali is a Bengali movie actress and has also worked previously in Hindi television.
The male lead of Shiva is being played by Pradeep Benetto Ryan who is a young Tamil movie actor. Shiva’s mother, Kanaka’s role, is being played by actress Yuvarani. The role of Alangaara Naachiyaar was played by actress-dancer Manju Bhargavi for the first 43 episodes. She was then replayed by Anuradha for the role. Anuradha is an Indian film actress who is mostly known for her item numbers in cinemas of all Indian languages. Other supporting cast in the show is Vijaykrushna Raj as zamindar Bhupathi, Sri Padma as Narasimha’s wife, GK as Narasimha, Bhupathi’s son, Geerthana as Sowmya, L.Raja as Abirami and Sowmya’s father, Naveen, Ravi Raj, Aravind, Premi, Prabhavathi and Subalakshmi.
