First Mangalam Film Awards 2015 Malayalam AWARDS on YouTube Channel

The first ever Mangalam Film Awards, sponsored by Oxygen, the digital shop, and powered by JoscoJewellers were held on 18th April 2015 in Nehru Stadium in Kottayam associated with the silver jubilee ofMangalam Daily. The winners of the award were decided through a poll conducted by the Mangalam online channel and a jury chaired by well-known director Lenin Rajendran and comprising of cinematographer Sunny Joseph and producer G Suresh Kumar. Veteran actor and director Balachandra Menon was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award for his unparalleled contribution to the landscape of Malayalam cinema.

Previous year’s major hit Vellimoonga starring Biju Menon and Nikki Galrani was declared the Best Movie of the year 2014. Following the trend set by many movie awards before, the award for The Best Actor of the Year 2014 was bagged by superstar Mammootty for his widely appreciated performance in Munnariyippu and Varsham while Manju Warrier went home with the Best Actress Award for her character Nirupama Rajeev in her comeback film How Old Are You. Debutant director Abrid Shine received the award for his movie 1983.

Mangalam also honored the young talents who are rising fast in Malayalam cinema, and Youth Icon Awards went to NivinPauly and Mia George. Najim Arshad walked away with the award for the Best Male Singer for the song ‘MazhannilaKulirumayi’ from Vikramadithyan while the Best Female Singer was Vani Jairam for the song ‘OlenjaliKuruviilamkaattiladivaru nee’ from 1983. Jomon T. John was awarded Best Cinematographer for Vikramadithyan while Bobby-Sanjay got the Best Screenplay award for their screen writing for How Old Are You.

The Jury’s picks were also honored with the Special Jury Awards. Special Jury Award for Direction went to Venu for Munnariyippu and to Anjali Menon for Best Script for Bangalore Days. The night boasted of starry presence as many stars walked down the red carpet to be the part of the ceremony. Deepa Rahul Easwar and Jewel Mary’s engaging anchoring enthralled the audience. Kottayam and team tickled everyone’s funny bones with their comic performance.
