Kerala's largest network of television channels, Asianet has stepped into its fourth year of giving awards for the best works in the cinema field. The lifetime achievement award for this year has been granted to the veteran actor Thilakan for his dynamic contribution to the Malayalam film world. This time, a brand new journal has been introduced in this year's function. It is nothing but the Award for the Best Star Pair of the year, and the winner of this award was Biju Menon and Samyuktha Varma for their cast in the Meghamalhar. The Best Editor of the Year award went to Beena Paul for his talented editing in the score Meghamalhar.

The Best New Face of the Year in the female category went to Nithya Das for her calm acting in the film Ee Parakkum Thalika. Another new Award has been given under the tag for this year's Best Artist for Makeup, and this has been distributed to P. V. Shankar and Salim for the box office Raavanaprabhu. Krishnan Unni has been tagged with this Year's Best Sound Recordist due to his work on the hit Kattuvannu Vilichappol. K.S.Chitra has been denied a hat-trick grabbing of the award for the this Year's Best Female Playback Singer. It has been taken over by the debut singer Sujatha Mohan for the film Soothradharan.

The Best Playback Singer- Male has been grabbed by Jayachandran for his film Raavanaprabhu. The Best Lyricist Award went to O. N. V. Kurup for the distinct lyrics in the songs for Meghamalhar. The Music Director of the Year Award went to M. G. Radhakrishnan for his scintillating performance in the making Kaate Vannu Vilichappol. The Best Cinematographer Award has been cleanly swept by Venugopal for his great work on the title Meghamalhar. The Best Script Writer of the Year went to T. A. Razak for his contents for the work Uthaman.

This time, the Asianet Network has decided to honor the Child Artists and came up with a new category of the award called as 'The Best Child Actor of the Year.' This year it was shared by Appu for his childish acting in the film Mookkuthy and Vihnesh for the cast in the comedy Pularvettam. The Best Supporting Actor Award for the Female division went to Bindu Panicker for the screen Narendra Makan Jayakanthan Vaka. The Best Supporting Actor-Male Award was taken home by Innocent for his helping hand in the film Ravanaprabhu. Meghamalhar has been titled as the Best Film of the Year.
