The Asianet television, a channel from Malayalam Television Network, telecasting various serials is now set to present an annual award. The prize has been dedicated to the excellent accomplishments in the Malayalam cinema industry. The channel from the Kerala State has decided to honor both the artists as well as the technical staffs who have worked together in the making of the excellent film. It has finalized that this show would be broadcasted annually. The ceremony is very popular in the Territory of the Lady Ruler of the Arabian Sea.

Mohanlal, the Superstar, has bagged the award in the category 'Best Actor-Male' most frequently in the Asianet Film Awards. The blockbuster film ' Ennu Ninte Moideen' has the distinction for the head with most nominations in a single year. The same film also holds a unique record for bringing home the most number of awards in a single year. The inaugural edition of the awards saw a warm welcome in the Malayalam Film industry by the way of various nominations for every award.

The session hosted various awards similar to that of the other award vending shows. The lifetime achievement award has been bagged by the famous Malayalam actress Aranmula Ponnamma. She was the Dream Queen of the entire Kerala State during the earlier part of 1970. Sujatha Mohan bagged the award for the category 'Best Playback Singer (Female)'. Her voice in the film ' Pranayavarnangal' took the credits for the gift. The winner of the 'Best Supporting Actor-Female' was Sukumari. Her dedicated role in the region 'Samaantharangal' was the main reason behind her victory.

The 'Best Actor- Female' was looted by Manju Warrier for the well-appreciated role in her zone 'Kanmadham.' This Year's Best Film Award has been won by the work 'Chinthavishtayaya Shyamala' produced by the Veteran Producer C. Karunakaran. The same film also got an another surprise picking up the 'Best Director of the Year'. The recipient was the King of the Malayalam Movie World, Sreenivasan. The 'Best Actor of the Year' was taken away by the actor Jayaram for his terrific performance in the cinema Sneham. The function, though in its debut edition, has rocked the entire Southern Indian State. Also, amidst the award distribution ceremony, there are scintillating dance as well as the singing performance by leading artists around the country.
