Amrita Film Awards is a very reputed and glamorous award show held to celebrate and applaud the hard work that the Malayalam Film industry puts into churning out movies with good content as well as with commercial value. The awards value both, the creative as well as technical people associated with the film industry and awards people from more than 25 categories. In its 8th year, Amrita Film Awards 2012 was held on 5th May 2012 at Chandrasekharan Nair Stadium with same glitz and grandeur that it is celebrated every year. This year it was the movie Salt and Pepper that swept away most of the awards. It won the Best Movie award along with Chaappa Kurishu. It also had severe competition from movies like Traffic and Beautiful. Best Actress and Actor awards were won by veteran thespians Mohanlal and Jayaprada respectively.
Actor Thilakan won the Best Versatile Actor award for his role in the movie
Indian Rupee. In the female category, Sarada won the award for her role in the movie Nayika. Multi-talented and multi-faceted actor, director, choreographer
Prabhu Deva was bestowed with the Versatile Personality award. Versatile Singer award was won by singer Karthik. Best Lyricist award was won by ONV Kurup, and Renjith won the Best Director award for his movie Indian Rupee. Apart from the veterans, the younger brigade too is not much left behind. The young actor and actress Dileep and
Kavya Madhavan won the Popular Actor and Actress award respectively. Actor Prithviraj won the Yuva Keerthi Puraskar award.
Best Singer in Male and Female category was won by
Unni Menon for the movie Beautiful and by Manjari for the movie Urumi respectively. Biji Bal pocketed the Best Music Director award for his movie Salt N Pepper. The Biju Menon and Manoj K. Jayan conjointly won the Best Supporting Actor for the movie Seniors while Lena won the Best Supporting Actress award for her role in Traffic. Thespian Jayaram won the Family Hero of the Year award while the Entertainer of the Year award was swept by actor Jayasurya. A bad and vigorous villain in pivotal for any hit movie and thus the Best Villian award was won by Vijayaraghavan for his antagonist role in the movie Venisile Vyapari. New Face Of The Year award was pocketed by
Unni Mukundan and Karthika in the Male and Female category respectively.
Asif Ali won the Best Youthful Pair award for their fresh and sizzling chemistry in the movie Salt N Pepper. Veteran actress and actor Swetha Menon and Lal won the Best On-screen Pair award for their movie Salt N Pepper. Master Siddharth won the Best Child Actor award for his acting in the movie Orma Mathram. This year a new category was introduced by Innovative Producer of the Year which was pocketed by the team of producers of Urumi which was headed by Santhosh. Several other important technical categories were awarded and recognized and movies like Salt N Pepper, Chaappa Kurishu, Traffic, and Beautiful.
The award show was attended by several eminent personalities of the Malayalam Film industry and also several people from their walks of life. The event saw more than 25000 people in attendance the entries for which was given by pass. The awards show also had several Kollywood and Bollywood artists entertaining the audience by tapping their feet to many hit songs. The night is truly a night of celebration of talent and the acknowledgment of the love the industry receives from its people.
