River Where the Moon Rises is a historical drama based on the novel Princess Pyeonggang written by Choi Sagyu in 2010. Kim Sang-hui developed the series. Scripted by Han Ji-hoon, Yoon Sang-ho directed the series. Jeon Chong-Hyeok is the music composer, and the ending theme, Become Someone's, is crooned by Zia, aka park Zi Hye. Jo Yoon-Jung and Baek Seung-bin produced the series under the banner Victory Contents. The series was telecast on KBS 2 from 15th February to 20th April 2021, every Monday and Tuesday. The story is about the romantic story of Princess Pyeonggang and On Dal. Although Pyeonggang was born as a Princess, she was raised as Yeom Ga-jin to kill a sinner. She dreams to re-establish the Kingdom of Goguryeo. But, she uses the love of On Dal to achieve her dream. She becomes the first woman Taewang of Goguryeo.

Kim So-hyun plays the role of Princess Pyeonggang / Yeom Ga-jin. Heo Jung-eun played the younger version of Princess Pyeonggang and Jung Yoon-ha is seen as the baby Princess Pyeonggang. Na In-woo plays the role of On Dal. Seo Dong-hyun plays the younger version of On Dal. Lee Ji-hoon, Park Min-sang, Choi Yu-hwa, Moon So-Hee, Kim Pub-Lae, Cha Kwang-soo, Kim Jung-young, Kim So-hyun, Son Woo-hyuk, Ahn Shin-woo, Wang Bit-na, Ki Eun-se, Park Sang-hoon, Kwon Hwa-woon, Kang Ha-neul, Hwang Young-hee, Kim Dong-young, Kim Hyun-bin, Oh Ah-rin, Yoon Ah-jeong, Lee Sang-chan, Won Woo, Lee Hae-young, Yoon Joo-man, Jung In-gyeom, Jasper Cho, Han Jae-young, Ryu Ui-hyun, Kim Hee-jung, Moon Jin-seung, Jung Eun-pyo, Kim Bum-suk, Kim Seung-soo, Jung Dong-geun, and Jo Bok-rae are cast in supporting roles.
