Koffee with Karan is a talk show where
Karan Johar (infamous Indian director and producer) invites celebrities to have a cup of coffee and indulge in all kinds of gossips, news, and fun games. In this show, public gets to know the reality of the people in the film industry. They learn about their lives, likes and dislikes, their behaviour, and their opinions on different issues. This show airs on Star World and Star Plus. The first episode of fifth season released on 6th November 2016 with the guests, Shahrukh Khan and
Alia Bhatt. It was a fun start with the duo talking about life and their latest movie, Dear Zindagi.
Later, celebrities like
Ranveer Singh, and many others make an appearance on this season to make it lively and enthusiastic. In this show, Karan Johar asks the guests various questions about their lives and ideas. There are also a couple of rounds of games during the show. One is a Rapid Fire game where the answers should be either yes or no, or choosing between two options. The guests have to answer with what comes to mind first. The second round is the Koffee Quiz where Karan asks a set of questions which includes Bollywood and general knowledge questions.
The guests with the highest points become a winner, and get a gift hamper called the Koffee Hamper, which consists of electronic gadgets and edible items like chocolates and coffees. At the end, every guest signs the coffee mug and places it on Karan’s wall of fame. Interesting fact about this season is that Twinkle Khanna,
Jackie Shroff with his son
Sania Mirza, and
Kapil Sharma made their first appearance ever on the show, or as Karan calls is, the Koffee Couch. Kapil was afraid that he wouldn’t be up to the mark because of his poor English but for sure must’ve felt extremely welcomed as soon as Karan assured him that speaking in English was not compulsory by any means and Kapil should just be honest and frank.
There also occurred a small argument between Kangana Raut and Karan Johar as he ridiculed her by saying that it was not expected from her to give such brilliant and National Award-winning performances. He apologized to her for that later. There are 20 episodes, and in each episode, guests have a great time with Karan. The last episode was about Koffee Awards which were meant to recap the memorable moments and episodes of the season. The winners were picked by
Rohan Joshi, Malaika Arora, and the director, Ayan Mukherjee. The winners are announced on the episode.
