Indian Idol is a singing competition and is the Indian form of the famous American Reality TV Show, American Idol. The show first started airing on Indian television on 2004-2005, and then again aired for three more consecutive years. In 2010, with the help of Anupama Mandloi and Tarun Katial, season five of the show was relaunched on Set Television Networks. Abhijeet Sawant was the first winner Indian Idol. The following year, Sandeep Acharya bagged the first position in the second season of the show.

In 2007, Prashant Tamang from Kolkata was the winner of Indian Idol Season three. Sourabhee Debbarma is the first woman to be the winner of the show. Sreeramchandra Mynampati, from Hyderabad, finished in first place. The sixth iteration of the reality singing TV show was aired on Sony TV for three months, 1 June 2012 to 1 September 2012. Vipul Mehta was declared to be the winner on 1 September 2012. The judges didn't favour any contestant over another. They were all equal in the judge’s eyes, which could be seen by them praising everyone with affection and love. The winner was decided by the Judge’s scores and the number of votes the participant received from the public. Hussain Kuwajerwala was the host of the season. He was assisted by Mini Mathur. Salim Merchant, Asha Bhosle, Anu Malik and Sunidhi Chauhan, were the judges for this season.

Three of them were there during the audition rounds, while Asha Bhosle joined them later. After months of touring various cities in search of India’s next singing sensation, The Judges came up with twelve names who would get to go to the main competition. They were Amitabh Narayan, Amit Kumar, Charit Dixit, Amrita Panda, Deepak Maher, Deeksha Piyush, Kaushik Deshpande, Devendra Pal Singh, Poorvi Koutish, Kritika Tanwar, Ritika Raj, Ravi Kumar Mishra, Simran Kaur, Saumya Mishra, Sohini Mishra and the eventual winner, Vipul Mehta. The winner received various awards from the Government.

He was also given music contracts with various companies. Asha Bhosle had to leave in the middle due to an illness. During its course, the show also saw many celebrities doing guest appearances to promote their movies. Salman Khan came to promote his movie Ek Tha Tiger. The season was filled with fun and passion. The live audience were ecstatic as ever.
