Bharatanatyam is a cultural program that was used to air on DD Bharti as an incentive to educate people more about the diverse culture that persists in India. DD Bharti was launched by the government on 26 January 2002 as a way to educate the young minds of India about the various cultures and traditions that persist and stemmed from their country.
The channel aimed at bringing a feeling of harmony among the people of India and a sort of respect for a different culture. DD Bharti had, for this particular reason, many shows dedicated to education, sports, quizzes, adventure, paintings, dance, singing, cartoons, talent hunt, etc. The channel is based in the New Delhi region of Delhi. The channel was quite successful in its pursuit of bestowing the people of India with the knowledge about their country as the channel was widely watched by the whole nation.
The channel had many hit shows and Bharatanatyam was among them. The show used to capture the art of Bharatnatyam and the lifestyle of the dancers who practice this art religiously. Bharatanatyam is one of the major and oldest dance styles practiced in India. The dance routine took its first step in the state of Tamil Nadu and hence is embedded with the cultural fancies and dance styles indigenous to the state. The dance form is said to have been born in ancient India in the temples and courts. The dance is said to represent many themes, traditions, cultural practices, clothing style of South India.
