‘Yug’ (means an Era) was a Hindi language televisions series that was telecast on Doordarshan. The series had an impressive star cast like
and many more Bollywood stars. It was telecast on DD National from 1996 to 1998. The story is narrated from British rule in India and is a tale of few freedom fighters.
Later, the TV series had even focused upon ‘1961 Operation Vijay’ too. In this series, Hema Malini performs the character as Nirmala and her sister Ashwini Bhave plays the role of Rukmani, who supports the vision for the independent India. The major problem is their dad who is a servant for Britishers. Nirmala is fond of Mahatma Gandhi, and Rukmani is a supporter of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. The two sisters commence reaching the aim in a right way.
The episode begins with a riot where a woman saves a small girl, and she narrates the story in flashback about those pre-independence days. In those days, how freedom fighters fought against tyrannies of British rule to achieve freedom is telecast in narrative form. In this series, Pankaj Dheer, Shabaz Khan played the role of freedom fighter, and actor Javed Khan plays the advocate character. The freedom fighters had their own party called Swatantrata Party (Freedom Party), and they were helped by Indians who were working in British Army.
The series also had a glimpse of an era after independence where desire, selfishness and crime have overwhelmed the mainstream of our society. Kamleshwar penned the series, and the lead characters of ‘Yug’ included all trustworthy top actors of the small screen like
