In India, Cricket and Movies are the only source of entertainment for the people. All the citizens follow them closely and love them. Hence, cricketers and Bollywood stars are all worshipped by their fans. Back in the day, cricket would not be played all days of the year and hence movies enjoyed more popularity. Since, actors and actresses enjoy immense and crazy love from the audiences, Sony Max 2 Channel came up with the idea of a show called Sitaare Kal Aaj Aur Kal. Sony Max 2 channel is the brother channel of Sony Max, which is a very famous channel known to telecast old as well as new movies.
Sony Max 2 channel, however, is different from Sony Max as it only broadcasts retro movies since the younger generation are not exposed to and are unaware of cinematic gems of the yesteryear era. Also, the younger generation are not aware of the yesteryear stars and so Max 2 channel conceptualized the show Sitaare Kal Aaj Aur Kal. The show showcases some fun facts about the older generation stars and their biographies. Through the show, some funny incidents or memorable events that had occurred while shooting a particular scene also came to light.
The show would last only for three minutes and would play between the advertisement breaks of the movies that were broadcasted. Within those three minutes, the show would cover all aspects of the superstars, right from how they began their journey and their struggles to how and what movie helped them achieve the stardom, and what they did in their personal and professional life thereafter. A voice would be played with the video which would narrate the biography.
Actors that have passed away were also covered by this show. Animations were used to cover their biographies. As it involved animation, the budget of the show was high. The show was the brainchild of
Udayan Pradeep Shukla who is the Vice-President and Programming Head of Max. As the show enjoyed popularity, the makers issued a statement that they wish to convert it into a serial suitable for the digital medium along with releasing a book with the animations. However, no such thing has yet materialized.
