Office- Office is a Hindi-language sitcom written by Ashwni Dhir and directed by Rajiv Mehra. The show went on-air for 3 years, from 2001 to 2004.It was aired twice a week (Monday & Tuesday) at 8:00 pm. It targeted the unrestrained corruption and bribery commonly seen in public offices of India.
It even mocks the laziness and greediness of Indian bureaucracy in a humorous way. The story revolves around Mussadi Laland his encounter with the corrupt officials. He struggles to get his work done and often treated harshly by corrupt officials. But in spite of his miserable situations, he continues to enthrall audiences with exceptional wit and humor. “Mussadi Lal,” a central character played by critically acclaimed Bollywood actor Pankaj Kapoor.
The show was supported by five more characters, who played officials part in the show. Ushaji played by Asawari Joshi, Bhatia by Manoj Pahwa, Patel by Deven Bhojani, Pandey-Ji by Hemant Pandey and the last one Shukla played by a fine actor Sanjay Misra. The show was very popular, well received and gained a lot of praise for its dark humor and pathos-driven satire. It even won accolades for its socially aware content; it won the two consecutive RAPA (stands for Radio & TV Advertising Practitioners’ Association of India) award for “best- comedy” serial for the year 2001 & 2002. The series even had Bollywood movie adaptation titled “Chala Mussadi Office-Office”, was released on 5th August 2011.
The follow-up series to this show was ‘Naya Office-office’ which aired on the Star One Channel (now closed). In fact, this follow-up series was among a few show which got spun off into its comic book series. It’s a show which keeps you entertaining and never let you run out of your laugh. If anyone looking for some quality Hindi language comedy show with some awestruck humor, then it is surely recommended for them.
