Naam Gum Jaayega was expected to be Shobhna Desai’s major launched project in 2003. But unfortunately, this show could not grab much attention so it went off air in 2 months. NGJ went on air from 19 May and made a run of 60 episodes. This serial was broadcast on Sony Channel.
Vipul Amrutlal Shah is the real man for this concept, with the story line based on the movie "Aankhen", the small screen stars Kanwaljeet Singh and Benjamin Geelani opposite Gauri "Kutumb" Pradhan and Shilpa "Sanjeevani" Kadam – who are well known for Fair and Lovely's "matching-matching" advertisement.
It was an inventive theme about exchanging belonging to different cultures whose families got to know about the switch 20 years later, the concept initially hints at sensitive communistic feelings. The channel changed the communistic angle when it did not attract audiences and shifted focus on to the romantic links of the lead actress. Unfortunately even that could not attract many viewers, said Anupama Mandloi who is the head of Sony's online programming. When this serial went on air, it had attracted many controversies; one advertising campaign had faced one problem the hoardings were torn by unidentified people one day. This scared the sponsors for this serial to advertise their product. The photographs of a Burkha-clad girl along with that of a Hindu girl were pasted on the billboard; asking if she is willing to change her religion. Such kind of hoardings was torn apart at the Aradhana Cinema by unidentified people.
