Mitwa Phool Kamal Ke was a daily soap that aired on the Indian entertainment television channel Star TV. It was directed by
Arvind Babbal and produced by UTV. The show continued to for a total of 173 episodes. The approximate runtime of the show was around 20-21 minutes and the title song “Mitwa” was sung by
Sunidhi Chauhan. “Mitwa” aired on Indian television from May 27, 2009, to January 29, 2010, and later aired on an Afghani TV channel Ariana TV from April 17, 2011 to January 15, 2012. The main story of the show is based on the orthodox customs/practices prevalent in Uttar Pradesh even these days and honour killing (Where a married couple is killed very cruelly If they marry outside their caste).
The main protagonist of the show are Mamchand Chaudhury (played by actor Shahbaaz Khan) and her granddaughter Bela played by
Tanvi Bhatia). Bela falls in love with a lower caste boy Birju (played by actor
Mohit Malhotra) whose parents were victims of honour killing by Bela’s grandfather.
The next plot revolves about how Bela and Birju get separated in the first but later reunited by their grandfather himself after realising and repenting his wrong doings changed his thoughts against caste discrimination and agreed to provide similar and equal rights and privileges to both the people of upper and lower caste and marry off Bela to Birju.
The show Mitwa came with a very strong message and the performances of the leading and supporting actors were also well appreciated. The show received good reviews from the audiences.
