Meri Jaan Hai Tu is a Pakistani drama which aired in India on the channel Zee Zindagi. In Pakistan, however, it ran by the name Mata-e-Jaan Hai Tu and aired on Hum TV. It draws its roots from the novel Mata-e-Jaan Hai Tu, penned by celebrated Pakistani writer Farhat Ishtiaq. The storyline revolves around the lives of two students from Columbia.
Sarwat Gilani, who debuted in the movie Jawani Phir Nahi Aani, played the role of Haniya Sajjad.
Adeel Hussain, whose role in Mohabbat Subh Ka Sitara Hai, played the character of Ibad Uzair.
Sanam Saeed who debuted in the serial Daam;
Junaid Khan of Mujhay Roothnay Na Daina fame;
Ahsan Khan who starred in Dil Mera Dharkan Teri,
Javed Sheikh who is also a director and producer; and
Hina Khawaja Bayat who appeared in
Zindagi Gulzar Hai are other members of the cast. Mehreen Jabbar who rendered her inputs for shows like Ab Tum Ja Saktey Ho and Chalo Phir Se Muskurain directed the show. Waqar Ali whose notable works include Thori Khushi Thora Gham, MeraNaam Hai Mohabbat and Do Qadam Door Thay, composed music tracks for this serial.
Momina Duraid wrote the opening theme of the show while Bilal Khan, who debuted with his album 'Umeed' in 2009, gave his voice for the same. As the onset of the story, the two lead characters (Haniya Sajjad and Ibad Uzair) meet at Columbia University. The female protagonist lives with her grandmother since she lost her parents very early on in life. Gradually, as the story unfolds, the two fall for each other. However, Ibad's parents' reaction changes everything. It was when he went home for a short visit and confessed his feelings in front of his family members that his father grew indignant. Ibad cannot go against the will of his father and thus, decides to give up on his love.
He gets tied in an arranged marriage instead. On returning to the US, he finds out that Haniya has lost her grandmother. Haniya is in a shattered state and seeing her condition, Ibad decides to marry her immediately. When he reveals this to his family, his father's rage takes over. He throws Ibad out of the house and vows to break all ties with him. When Haniya comes face-to-face with this news, she resolves to fly all the way to Pakistan and seek the approval plus forgiveness of Ibad's family. The drama acquired a lot of fame for its beauty. The artists all received enormous praises which added on to the show's glory.
