Meri Awaaz Hi Pehchaan Hai belongs to drama genre. It had music as its backdrop. &TV broadcasted the show from 7 March 2016 to 15 July 2016. The show was a finite series of 130 episodes. &TV telecasted the show every week from Monday to Friday at night. The writer of the show is Bhavani Iyer. Nivedita Basu produced the show. It was the first time that her productions banner ‘The House of Originals’ made any show. Zee Entertainment Enterprises was the distributor for it. The show is a story of two sisters, Ketki and Kalyani, who are passionate about music. Their lives revolve only around music. Music is the world for them. The show encompasses their three generations. It features the bitter- sweet relationship that they have which later turns into a rivalry.
The show is in the form of a story which is told by their mother, Devika. The story is about their life. It shows their journey from a beautiful town, Nagthane, to the city of dreams, Mumbai. They grew up together and had the same passion for singing. They have to face many struggles, troubles, and even got cheated several times in their personal life, and finally they became very successful. But, they had many differences and misunderstandings between them which made them go through a separation of a long 21 years. The distances between them became so huge that could not be fathomed. The show ends on a good note with both of them forgetting all the misunderstandings and differences, and reconciling.
Kalyani is shown as a very sensitive and strong person who has to handle all the responsibilities from a very young age which makes her more mature than her age. She wants to become the best singer and can overcome all obstacles that come in her way by grit and hard work. On the other hand, Ketki is a person who thinks with her heart rather than the head. She is impulsive, spirited, emotional, and incredibly ambitious. She loves to experience and explore everything. She is not capable of decision making. Both the sisters love each other but fail to understand each other. In the show, Ketki gets married and have a child before getting separated from her husband, while Kalyani remains single.
Due to the concept of sisters having a backdrop as music, the show was believed to be made on the life of Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle. However, the makers of the show denied all such news. Kalyani Gaikwad was played by Jannat Zubair Rahmani (child Kalyani), Amrita Rao (young), and Deepti Naval (old); while Ketki Gaikwad was played by Mehnaaz Maan (child), Aditi Vasudev (young), and Zarina Wahab (old). The other cast included actors like Pallavi Joshi, Suhita Thatte, Rituraj Singh, Eijaz Khan, Aditya Redij, Reshmi Ghosh, and Bhanu Uday. It is a positive story which takes out viewers on a soulful journey of two sisters who are singers. The show is very interesting to watch. The way their story is depicted is awesome.
Another version of the Serial...
‘Meri Awaaz Hi Pehchaan Hai’ is an Indian musical drama TV series which premiered on 7 March 2016( on the eve of International Women’s Day), and is currently being broadcasted on &TV. The show comes on air from Monday to Friday with every episode being of 23 minutes in length. Initially the show was written by Bhavani Iyer and later Preeti Singh took over. Bhavani Iyer, the former journalist and now a screenwriter, has worked both on popular Bollywood movies like Lootera, Guzaarish and TV series like 24, Everest.
The show has been produced by ‘The House of Originals’, headed by Nivedita Basu and is directed by Kushal Zaveri (fame from Gumraha). The first season is of 95 episodes , continued up to 15 July 2016. In the story, Devika Gayakwaad is a mother of two girls Kalyani and Ketki, who grew up together and are very passionate about singing. On their journey, they had to struggle a lot. They even got deceived from people in their personal lives. Eventually, their efforts paid off by receiving great success. However, the fate has it that due to some misunderstanding they had to separate for about 21 long years.
This led to the idea for the tagline of the show- ‘ why the sisters joined by the musical passion had to separate’. Some were under the suspicion that this had something to do with Asha Bhonsle and Lata Mangeshkar’s rivalry, but creators cleared that it’s not. The story of the two sisters started across the three generations, and their journey started from the town of Nagthane to Mumbai, where the dreams come true. The show comes off as a very realistic depiction of the Indian music industry which was actually necessary . It also has true depiction and praise for the dressing and lifestyle of people from villages and cities, and the sharp contrast between them.
In the last episode, the show ends on a positive note by uniting the two sisters who forget all differences in their lives. The show has many interesting trivia in it. Amrita Rao (as Kalyani Gaikwad) makes her debut on the television with this show. Pallavi Joshi (as Devika Gaikwad) will be making a comeback after such long interval. The veteran actors Deepti Naval and Zarina Wahab are acting as the older generations of the singers, as old Kalyani and old Ketki. The show will not be continuing forever and so does not come under TRP monitoring. Hence, overall, it was many experiments put together into a single show, and from the reviews, it seems to have turned out to be a successful experiment.
