The show is supposed to go off air on 30 June 2016 as Channel V India is going to reinvent as a youth music only channel, ending all its concurrent shows. Mastaangi the story of a couple whose lives come to a tragic, untimely end. However, their love story continues as they meet again in a new life to uncover the secret of their past life and revive their love.

The story begins in 1995, when a couple, Kabir (played by Akash Talwar), an agent of RAW, and an agent of ISI Udita (pseudonym), die mysteriously in Pune. Having been reincarnated as Ria and Karan (enacted by Swati Kapoor A pretty face and a strong identity, Swati Kapoor >> Read More... ), the duo meet again after 21 long years. They are studying in St. Stephen's College, Pune. Often alone or on coming together, they experience flashes from their past lives. Another agent of RAW, Anushka (played by Himani Sahani), a companion of Kabir in his past life has also been reincarnated, and her name is Anaita. She had been involved in their untimely deaths.

In this life, however, Anaita is the best friend of Ria, and they go to college together. ISI Commander and mastermind of "Operation Tabahi", Zuber (actor Raaj Singh Arora), who was involved in their past life, now lives in Pune, an industrialist under the name Ishaan, to fulfill that operation which was left unaccomplished. Coincidentally, he is among the trustees of St. Stephen's College. Euro, His son, studies there too. Ria's psychiatrist father tries to understand Ria's flashbacks. Karan lives with his married brother who works in Pune.

Anaita also lives with Ria in Pune. Karan is a friend of Anaita and Ria. Su, Trumpet, Vanessa, and Jiggs are their other friends. Zuber is shocked to see them and tries to get their hidden identity. Anaita likes Karan and is terribly jealous of Ria, who always attracts Karan’s attention. Anaita thinks that Ria is acting kind and innocent while Anaita comes off as a bad person. There’s a lot of incarnation stuff to wrap your mind around and of course the tragedy of love. There is a blend of thrill, love and supernatural elements that promise to keep the viewer riveted till the very end.
