‘Krishnakali’ was a TV series on DD National that was telecast in the year 2007. The serial was produced and directed by actor-director
Amol Palekar. The story was written by Shivani and the story of the serial was essayed in the backdrop of Bengal culture and ethos. An important part of the story is based in Calcutta.
The series was shot even in outdoors of Calcutta by Amol Palekar. He had captured the essence of the city projecting the life in the 1960s and thus gave the serial an authentic texture. The star cast of the serial was also from Bengal. It included the veteran Bengali actress like
Mamata Shankar, Anjana Basu, Kamalika,
Rimjhim Mitra and others. Anjana Basu played the title role of ‘Krishnakali’ and another actress
Chaiti Ghoshal appeared in a cameo role.
Indrani Ghosh and Amol Palekar were involved in art direction. The story is based on the central character Krishnakali who is a modern girl and has a deep respect for her Indian culture. She also has a love for Prabir, and she knew what her fate would be later. The serial was a masterpiece because of the story that travels through an emancipated woman’s life, her thoughts, and dreams. The screenplay and dialogue were by Dr Sameer Kulkarni.
