Karishma - The Miracles of Destiny was a television series broadcast on Sahara One. The series had 262 episodes and lasted in the period from 25 August 2003 until October 2004. The main protagonist in the series is Devyani (played by Karisma Kapoor) and the story describes her life since she was 17 year old, until the age of 70. Her life has always been difficult and she struggled and fought to become a successful woman and mother. She is a mother of two sons, Jai (played by Ayub Khan) and Sameer (played by Harsh Chhaya). Karishma's sons are arrogant and spoiled and enjoy the wealth their mother created without feeling any responsibility to contribute to the family business. Both sons are married, Sameer's wife is Amrita (played by Sheeba Akashdeep) and Jai's wife is Natasha (played by Resham Tipnis). The sons can't stand the power of their mother and the control she has over them, and they plot to kill her and split her fortune. Karishma attends a ceremony in her honor and in honor of her life achievements, and an assassin tries to kill her, but she survives with only a scratch on her arm. The story goes back and forth showing different periods of Karishma's life, spanning over three generations. The series was well accepted by the TV audience in India mostly because of the real story-line of the woman determined to achieve her goals in life, her courage, her strength, sacrifice and hard work while climbing the ladder of success.
