He is a representative of the Indian national cricket team before taking up acting as a career. He had great but short run as a cricketer, though. His career on the ground got marred by injuries which forced him to retire. He was a member of the Indian cricket team for twenty One Day International (ODI) matches and one Test match. His career spanned over 1989 to 1997. He was a bowler (right arm fast medium). Before he got selectes in the Indian team, he represented Maharashtra at the first-class level. He used to regularly open the bowling for his team. His consistent performance got him noticed to the selectors. His game resulted in him becoming a part of the Indian contingent when they toured Pakistan in the years 1989–90. Unfortunately, he could not continue beyond the first Test match at Karachi because of injuries.
Post that, he went back to playing cricket at the first-class level. After some years, he was once again selected to represent the Indian cricket team, this time for the ODI side, in 1993. He continued this time and was also a part of the squad which played the Cricket World Cup in 1996. His career was once again cut short at the age of 28. His left shin bone, unfortunately, started developing a bone tumor. Because of this he was unable to run for two whole years. This incident forced him into retirement. Following his recovery, he shifted tracks to join the film and television industry. He has since then continued in the same.
