Descendants of the Sun belonged to both romance and action genre. It was originally a South Korean show which aired on KBS2 from 24 February 2016 to 14 April 2016. It had 16 episodes, but later three special episodes were shown from 20 April to 22 April 2016 containing best scenes and highlights from the series along with behind the scenes, production process, commentaries from members of the cast, and final epilogue. The show later came in India on Zindagi TV from 8 February 2017. It used to come from Monday to Saturday at 8 pm. It replaced the serial, TV KeUssPaar. Kim Won-seok and Kim Eun-sook were the writers of the show, and Baek Sang-hoon and Lee Eung-bok were the directors of the show.

Gaemi was the music composer for the show, and Bae Kyung-soo was the executive producer of the show. Park Woo-ram, Yoo Jong-seon, and Ham Young-hoon produced the show under KBS, Next Entertainment World, Barunson Inc., and Descendants of the Sun SPC. The show got several nominations at 52nd Baeksang Arts Awards and also won many of them. The show not only came in India but in other countries also like Indonesia, Greece, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Philippines, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, Japan, etc. But in China, it became such a big hit that later there were several warnings stating security issue. The show got adapted in a film in China, and according to reports, it’s sequel is all set to come this year. The characters of Haesung Hospital Medical Services Team were done by Park Hwan-hee, SeoJeong-yeon, Lee Seung-joon, and Onew.

The show had cameos by Red Velvet, Lee Jae-young, Nam Ki-ae, Yoo Ah-in, Park Joon-geum, Jun In-taek, Ryu Hwa-young, Park Tae-won, Jung Ji-won, Matthew Douma, Lee Jong-hyuk, and Lee Kwang-soo. Yoo Si-jin is in the South Korean Special Forces unit where he is Captain. He and Master Sergeant Seo Dae-young, his friend, are not on duty when they see Kim Ki-bum, a young man, stealing a motorcycle and so they apprehend him, but during his capture, he gets injured and thus is sent to the hospital. Dae-young realizes that his cell phone is missing and is stolen by the thief. So, he along with Si-jingo to the hospital to take it back. There, he meets Dr. Kang Mo-yeon and is attracted to her at first sight only, but she mistakes him as a part of the criminal gang of the thief because of his nickname, Big Boss, which is in real his call sign.

Later, he proves his real identity by the help of Yoon Myung-ju, an army surgeon. They start dating, but their dates are frequently interrupted halfway due to their jobs. Si-jin is deployed to Uruk, a fictional country, for a peacekeeping mission. On the other hand, Mo-yeon is upset as she is not given professorship because of a colleague who had great connections with the management of the hospital. After returning back, Si-jin meets Mo-yeon where they talk about their perspectives regarding life which make them realize that they are very different as Si-jin kills as a soldier to protect people while Mo-yeontries to save lives by honoring the Hippocratic Oath as a doctor. Due to all this difference, they decide to separate their ways.

On the other hand, Dae-young is in a dilemma to whether continue his relation with Myung-ju or to choose his profession as he has the risk to be thrown out of the army by her father because of breaking fraternization rules. A leap of eight years is shown where Mo-yeon refuses her hospital director's sexual advances. As a result, she is assigned to lead a medical team to Uruk, a place far away from Seoul, where she reunites with Si-jin.

Through some unexpected events like an epidemic and earthquake, their love becomes stronger. Mo-yeon comes to know more about Si-jin's job and has to confront a fierce reality that she might never have full information regarding his location due to the nature of his work and also the possibility of him getting killed during the action. Mo-yeon accidentally in Uruk confesses her feelings which leave both their team members amused. They then start dating officially and continued it after returning back to Korea.

The twist comes when Si-jin along with Dae-young are sent on a classified operation where they disappear, and both are assumed to be dead. After some months, Mo-yeon is shown to be mourning his death and decides to commemorate his death by volunteering a trip to Albania. At the trip, Si-jin finds her eventually, after he and Dae-young were rescued by a friend,who is a soldier of North Korea, from captivity as he was earlier saved by Si-jin. Si-jin and Mo-yeon, and Dae-young and Myung-ju are reunited with each other happily. Now let’s talk about the main characters of the show. Song Joong-ki played the role of Yoo Si-jin, nicknamed as Big Boss.

This show is his comeback after two years of mandatory military services. Si-jin is the team leader and the Captain of Alpha Team. He joined the military by following the footsteps of his father who is a retired Sergeant Major and he topped in Korean Military Academy. He doesn’t care about politics of war and sometimes even denies following his superiors' orders as all he wants is to protect the people who need help and he wants to protect his men's honor and his country. He is very popular among his team because of his sense of humor and approach to life, but Mo-yeon realizes that all this is done by him to deflect her questions regarding his job and also to cope up the pain of losing comrades.

In the end, he is promoted to the position of Major. Song Hye-kyo played the role of Doctor Kang Mo-yeon, nicknamed as Beauty who is a cardio thoracic surgeon. She is assertive and believes that competence is important than connections but later faces the opposite of reality that everything happens with connections. He is infamous for his strict behavior amongst the cadets and recruits. He has a sharp deadpan sense of humor. For the almost entire show, he faces problems to express his feelings to Myung-ju. Kim Ji-won also was part of the show as Yoon Myung-ju, First Lieutenant, who is an army doctor and daughter of Lieutenant General Yoon who is the Commander. She, similarly like Si-jin, follows her father's footsteps and was junior to him. She does an internship at Haesung Hospital where she meets Dae-young, but their relationship was criticized, him being a noncommissioned officer and she being an officer. But she continues the relationship, much to her father's chagrin.
