The 62nd national film awards streamed live on May 15, 2015 on Doordarshan. Hosted in Vigyaan Bhawan New Delhi many celebrities came to celebrate the award show. It starts with Jasleen and Sanjeev giving an introduction to the show. Priyadarshini is there welcoming the celebrities in the red carpet.She first welcomes KanganaRaunat.She wins the best actress award for her role in the movie Queen. Sanchari Vijay wins the best actor award for Nanu Avanalla Avalu.
230 feature films with dubbed in 23 languages were received for the film awards and 171 non-feature films in 23 languages entered too.35 books and 25 film critics competed for best writing on cinema awards. In the non-feature film the best film award went to “ Tender is the Sight” which is directed by Torsha Banerjee, produced by Films Division.The next guest on the red carpet is
Srijit Mukherji. He is awarded for best direction for his movie Chotushkone.The jury for a feature film is P.Bharathiraja.
The jury for the non-feature film is Kamal Swaroop and for writing is Madan.Dhanush gets his first award as national producer and is the one in the red-carpet.The 10 years old singer, Uthara Unni Krishnan gets the award for best playback singer female for Saivam and Sukhwinder gets for best playback singer in male category for film Haider.
Vishal Bhardwaj is the next to appear on the red carpet.He takes the award for the best dialogue.Two Shakespeare plays adaptations are awarded this time that is Haider being one and the other is Assamese version of Othello.
Vikas Bahl comes on the red carpet next.Next one to grace the grandeur of red carpet was the very famous and melodious Sukhwinder Singh Ji,the singer of famous songs like Haulehaule, Chak De India and much more.He was nominated for his very unique composition which he named as an Indian ballad.
The awards were conferred based on the division into three categories: feature films,rarely featured films, and best stories written ever. 320 films were identified while 23 will be awarded and it took almost 75 days for the jury to decide. Best short fiction film in non-featured films award was conferred to MITRAA directed by Ravindra Jadhav. Then Pallavi Joshi and
Rajat Kapoor invited on stage the director of the national film festival to announce the best actor/actress award winner. Before that, there was a voluntary invitation by our very own anchor for any form of performance on stage.Then someone from the audience came and spoke about the greatness of Dada Sahib Phalke award.Dada Sahib Phalke was the first one to represent Raja Haris Chandra in a silent movie and in his commemoration and honor,the award was floated. Lata Mangeshkar Ji received this award in 1989 and Asha Bhosle Ji in 2000 and Yash Chopra Ji in 2001.
Then the honorable President graced the event with his presence and the national anthem was sung. Then Mr. Bimaljulka, the Secretary of Information and Broadcasting gave a little speech about the purpose of this event is to highlight and encourage all the star performers in any field, be it a producer or a technician. Dada Sahib Phalke award was not presented at this ceremony. It was decided to be given at an event going to be held in Mumbai. Tanul Thakur for the best film Critic and Silver Lotus award to Ayan Bhattacharya for best audiography, Athaansh Communications for Mitraa for best short fiction film, Aruna Raj Patil for best Educational Film (Behind the Glass Wall), Tuhinabhamajumdar for best Biographical Film, I Cannot Give you my Forest for Best Environment film for portraying the concern over the tribal communities in Orissa, Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts for the best promotional films. The best non-feature film award went to “Tender is the sight”. And with this,the non-featured film category was closed. Then was the time for some beautiful songs to take over the beautiful audience. Sukhwinder Singh Ji was called upon stage to grace the evening with his songs.
Then was the time for some special mentions. Palomighosh was certified for Nachom film for autonomous passion in singing at a personal cost, Mustafa for film Ain. Silver lotus award was conferred to Orong film for best Rabha film. Best actress award to
Kangana Ranaut for Queen film and best actor to Sancharivijay for Naanuavanalla (Kannada film) and best make-up artist to Nagaraju and Raju for Naanaavanalla. Best Child Artist award was given to J. Vignesh and Ramesh for Kaakamuttai (Tamil film). Best Supporting Actor to
Bobby Simha for Jigarthanda, Best Supporting Actress to Baljinderkaur for Pagdi, thehonour, Best Screenplay to Vishal Bhardwaj for Haider, Best lyrics to Na.Muthukar for Saivam. The ceremony came to an end by the President’s speech wherein he wished the bountiful growth of Indian cinematography in all fields and with a vision to have an international standing even better than before.
