One of the many
National Film Awards of India is “The National Award for the Best Feature Film”. The Golden Lotus Awards is also a part of this award ceremony. The Directorate of Film Festivals, an organisation, set up by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting of Indian Government presents this award every year. This award was first instituted in the year 1954. It has a huge spectrum and includes films in all the languages in a year. All the award winners (Director and Producer) are awarded with a certificate and cash prize.
The ceremony for the 42nd National Film Award was held in the year 1995 to felicitate the best films of 1994. The awards were divided into the three categories of Non- Feature Films, Feature Films and books written on Indian Cinema. In the Feature Films category, the films that won the “Golden Lotus Award” were Unishe April (Best Feature Film) directed by Rituporno Ghosh and produced by Renu Roy, Moga Mull (Best Debut Film of a Director) directed by Gnana Rajasekaran and produced by J. Dharmambal, Hum Aapke Hain Kaun (Best Popular Film providing wholesome entertainment), Kochaniya and Abhay (Best children’s film) and Xagoloroi Bohudoor (Best direction). Similarly, the films that won the “Silver Lotus Award”, the films that won awards were Mukta, Karuththamma, Parinayam, Wheelchair, Nirbachana, Krantiveer, etc.
Apart from these, there is also an award given to the Regional Films. Xagoloroi Bahudoor (Assamese), Amidini (Bengali), Mammo (Hindi), Kotreshi Kanasu (Kannada) and Sukruthu in Malayalam. Non- Feature films are short films that are made in any language of India and certified by the Central Board of Film of Certification as either a documentary or a fiction. The best non-feature film which won the Golden Lotus Award was Rasayatra which was released in both English and Hindi.
The best non-feature films which won the Silver Lotus Award were A Little War, The Trapped, Painting in Time, Another Way of life, etc. The final category of this Award was Best Writing on Cinema. Abhinayam Anubhavam written by
Bharath Gopi in Malayalam got the Golden Lotus Award. Rashmi Doraiswamy got the award for Best Film Critic Award because of her well researched and in-depth analysis of important issues in Indian Cinema. The Lifetime Achievement Award named Dadasaheb Phalke Award was awarded to the actor
Dilip Kumar. He was awarded a Swarna Kamal, Rs.1, 00,000 and a shawl.
Finally, this is one of the most prestigious awards in the world of Indian Cinema.
