Jeff Daniels plays the role of a charismatic news anchor, Will McAvoy, and together with the help of his staff, he battles with the corporate and the political forces of the city. There are many obstacles on their way, and the only way to handle them is to let the public know the truth. But, while they travel on their path to truthfulness, they are embroiled in their personal problems which start affecting their work. Sorkin is also the creator of another political drama, The West Wing.

The Newsroom has been in his mind since 2009. It took him three years to get the show on the air. Jeff Daniels is an outspoken Republican. He has a decent image in front of the camera; he doesn't want to offend anybody in public, and especially is front of the camera. He is described as someone who is firm to work with at the office. His life is changed when his ex-girlfriend, joins the same network.

She sets him on a path, fro which there is no turning back. She joins the network after working overseas for twenty-six months as an on the spot journalist. The rest of the staff always go against Jeff’s orders, and they would rather listen to MacKenzie. There is humour in it and also a little bit of drama.
