Intervention is a TV show to create awareness about drugs among the American citizens. It is a reality show which documents the life of drug addicts. Addiction is a strong feeling which comes from within your body, over which you have no control. Many of us are addicted to many things, they might be good for us or they might be bad. We don't know, and we will never know. We will consider it to be good and will continue to keep abusing it. We won't have any control over our mind and soul. There is a sudden urge in our body to do that particular thing, which is very difficult to check.

The life of a drug addict is pitiful. They throw away all their money on it and remain broken. The show documents the life of such people during rehabilitation. Through it, the producers want to prove that anybody can be rehabilitated and it is not that difficult.

Sam Mattler is the producer of the show. As of now it had had fifteen seasons which contains 198 episodes. Gary R. Benz, Jeffrey L. Weaver, Jen Wagman, Michael Branton and Laura Fleur, are the executive producers of the show. It has a runtime of forty-three minutes. The first episode was aired on 6 March 2005.

Each episode revolves around the lives of two drug addicts, and journey on the path to salvation. These two have a serious addiction to various substances. This intervention is led by their family. It is their family who called the show and requested them to help them rehabilitate. Most of the candidates have no source of income, and they are dependent on their loved ones for it. The show gives them an ultimatum to go into rehabilitation and change your life, or their loved ones and family members will cut all ties with them.

It is not easy to convince the candidate to be part of the show. Threats like being arrested, property seized, breaking up of marriage, foreclosure of bank accounts, and many more, are used to achieve the mission. After filming the early days, the producers later catch up by filming the last days of rehabilitation for the show’s follow-up episodes. Many of the addicts have been thankful to the show, whereas few of them didn't have enough willpower and they walked right off the show.

The show has received praise from the National Drug Agency of USA. The episodes also features interviews with family members, how it has affected their life and how it could be made better.
