The smart Jack finds out that the terrorists are the source of work under an official named James Nathanson. So, the plot that has been used by the terrorists is the anti-terrorism treaty signing by President Logan. 20 steel canisters containing VX nerve gas are thus stolen in the meantime. In the process of searching the nerve gas, Jack comes face to face with the fact that James Nathanson and the chief of the White House are involved. He gains the knowledge that they all together are planning to release the nerve gas on Russian soil so that they create a diversion again and Logan can secure the American petroleum interests in Central Asia. As David gets to know about the whole plan he was murdered.

Jack later discusses with an ex-worker Christopher Henderson as he seemed to be thoughtful and helpful to Jack, but Christopher betrays Jack, locks him up in a room with the presence of a bomb which almost killed Jack. When the terrorists successfully break into the CTU releasing the nerve gas, Christopher Henderson, Jack Bauer, Tony Almeida, Kim Bauer, Chloe O’Brian, and others get saved up in sealed room. Jack rushes to the medical room where he almost got hold of Henderson, but due to his bad luck, Henderson manages to escape while killing Tony.

Jack and Wayne lastly retrieve a recording that indicates that Logan involved in a a bank vault in which he tried to frame James Heller the US secretary of defence. Jack and Audrey get hold of Henderson again, but they get to know that he had already passed the recording to a co-conspirator. Jack then successfully boards a plane at the end and gives the recording to CTU after successfully capturing it.
