The story of the serial focuses on a lady who is named as Tara Gregson, she is the wife and mother of two children.

The family is living in Overland Park, Kansas. She is been diagnosed with Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID). When she gets stressed Tara often changes her personality. Sometimes she becomes a wild and flirty teenager, sometimes 1950s style housewife Alice, sometimes loud, sometimes beer-drinking Vietnam Vet Buck. A last personality of Gimme is added at the end of season 1. In the second series of the show, two new personalities were added. The first one is Shoshana, who is the therapist of sorts while the next personality after him is Chicken, who is an infantile representative of Tara when she was 5 years old.

Next personalities emerge in season 3 who is Bryce, Tara's half-brother. She gets enough support from her husband, Max, her daughter, Kate, and son, Marshell. In the beginning, tara’s sister was against her disorder and does not supported her.As the serial continues her sister started realizing that she did bad by not understanding Tara's emotions and feelings.
